If we want to destroy ozone, and create and grow the ozone hole, we need two main conditions. Cold temperatures and sunlight. Cold temperature enables the stratospheric clouds to form, and then sunlight reacts with those clouds to start a chemical process that destroys ozone, and thus the ozone hole forms and grows. The theoretical threshold for stratospheric clouds to form, is below -78°C (-108.4°F). Thanks to the stratospheric warming, the temperature in the stratosphere over the South pole has risen above that threshold quite sooner than usually, which has put a severe limit on the growth of the ozone hole.
