St. Petersburg as every large city has various “faces”. Let’s see them

New developments on the west of Vasiliyevsky Island

They have to improve some things in this newly developed area

A sort of skyline in the south of St. Petersburg

Moskovsky Avenue – mostly built in the Stalin times.

    The Russian National Library

    Some scenes in the centre

The top of the Singer Building

    Kazansky Cathedral

    Griboyedov Canal

    Nevsky Avenue

    Moyka River

    Winter Canal

Interesting building close to Winter Palace

The wedding and the apish tourists

    The backyard of some building

Area near the Petrogradskaya Metro Station

    Kamenoostrovsky Avenue

    Black Cat

    Near the Chernyshevskaya Metro Station

The Peter and Paul Cathedral from below

    Men choir

    Inside the Petropavlovskaya Fortress

    The Neva

    The Aurora

    Some new office developments

    Somewhere east of Liteyny Avenue

Dancing girls on the balcony at the Nevsky

    At the Kupchino Metro Station

    South Gate Residential Complex

I didn’t expect to see something in St. Petersburg, looks like a pic from the 80’s

The massive apartment’s buildings are very popular in St. Pete…

    Krestovsky Island with parks

    A nice apartment’s building

Evidently, a nice view from apartment in the house

    That's all...

If you wish I can post pics of Peterhof and Vyborg here!

St. Petersburg is very nice, thx.

But these nasty cafes with white plastic chairs near the most beautiful monuments is very annoying.... and it is pretty common. as far as I remember.

Yes, it's not good... But many cafes are already quite nice though!

                Nice photos!

can you please tell anything about the project of new building of "Mariinskij" theatre? This should be very modern one by friench architect Dominique Perrault (http://www.perraultarchitecte.com/indexuk.htm).The building site should be placed behind the old theatre. Is something going on at that place?

Yes the place is enclosure, I think they started the construction already.

Thanks for the pictures, SIberian. I have actually been to St Pete about 10 years ago even though now I can't remember that much except the Hermitage and other main places (perhaps because my perception of architecture and cities in general has changed radically since then).

The old architecture of St. Petersburg is fascinating! Despite it being a "copy" of the Western cities (perhaps Paris? Even though it's clearly got its distinctive architectural style which can also be found in Helsinki or even Vilnius ). I think it's by far the most beautiful city in Russia.
