Concert Hall in Riga would be designed by Latvian architects
Still waiting for renderings of this tender...
After three days of work jury has selected the winner in international tender for Accoustic Concert hall - and they are Latvian "Silis, Zabers & Klava" (www.szk.lv) They really are great architects!!! They have proposed to build a "heap" of 12 shiny, black cubes - "mysterious, secluded space where visitor will have deeply personal meeting with music". At the same time this building does not disturb/contradict the Old city on opposite shore and planned "showroom" of modern architecture on left shore.

Second prize went to Danish "Hennin Larsen's Tegnestue", many other world-scale architecture bureaus have presented their projects as well.
News tell that the jury, including foreign architects, are exalted about the winning design. Construction of winning design itself will cost 30 mio EUR but infrastructure costs around the site will cost more - the site is on narrow peninsula.
Hope - I will be able to post renderings soon.

At least something good after shameful defeat against Canada in ice hockey yesterday...
Two (or three?) skyscrapers in Kipsala highrise district have been started over the last days!!!
- Da Vinci (27 floors, 95 m) got pile driver yesterday, today they announced start of works. This >50 mio EUR worth building should rise in 2007 already.
- Vertikala Pasaule has started digging the hole in ground

Some renderings of "Hanzas darzi" project, under preparation by "Aizkraukles banka":
Hope that this will not be all. In fact - there is pile driver working in Remtes Street offices site (26 floors), but building is not finally approved because of architecture. Thus I tend to think - this project has been started too.

New hotel at Central Railway station, designed by Behnisch Architekts (Germany), should be started in few months and completed in 2007 - 2008.
Skanste street area with approved buildings - including four 24-floor apartment buildings. One of them (the closest to us) has been started.
I like that Riga is looking for a new ideas of buildings shapes, materials, colors etc. I've found lots of biuldings that I think are fabulous.
Such buildings with a trees on the different floors or such shapes are very different from others, because of that they atract atention. Maybe the minus is that the price is greater. But anyway, wish lithuanian architect would not be scared of new ideas. I think Riga will benefit from geting construction boom a bit later then Vilnius and Tallinn. It'll help to avoid already made mistakes and I think it's also inspires to build someting better then Vilnius and Tallinn has.
@vytauc - as far as I know - Vertikala pasaule would be 120 m high. This info is not totally sure yet. This is a bit of disappointment to me - there were rumours about considerably higher building there before. Still hoping that the highest one would be built near this building - there are certain plans.
Thanks for kind words! I truly hope that the beautiful projects will be realised here

After large road constructions (>100 mio EUR worth) come to an end, construction boom started in Saulkrasti resort north-east from Riga. They got several middle-size projects (20 - 40 mio EUR each), this is one fo them:
Every day am passing by a new village south from Riga - "Selji". Initially did not like architecture, but step by step it grows on me:
43 buildings in total - they turn rather boring place into something cosy.
Office building in Krasta Street - architect "Sarma & Norde", developer Estonian "Metro Capital Management". Approval pending - they hope to start this year. Windows will be lighted in different colors in night.
Early proposal for enormous complex in Zakusala, highest buildings reach 40 floors. Mainly hotels, conference centres, also offices and high-end apartments. Architect - "Space Group" (Norway), engineer - "Arup" (Britain), developer - local "Zakusala Estate". Until November 2006 draft design should be elaborated. That enormous horseshoe will not stand in water - not allowed here. Look for project in www.spacegroup.no - they got lots of other interesting projects too.
"Dienvidu metropole" highrise complex in souther part of city and Southern bridge

Some renderings of future skyline of Riga - there are on-going widely published public hearings about it. Highest planned building in southern part of Kipsala - 175 m, with spire reaching 195 m. Most of the buildings shown here are real proposals, some are imaginary (including the highest one) and some real proposals are missing (f.e. Akropolis highrises):
