It will come instead of this wooden building - that wooden building would be moved to Kalnciema Street among similar wooden buildings:

I like office complex in Krasta Street but high-rise in Remtes Street looks weird and I don't really like it. Maybe in reality it'll look better. "Galleria Azur" looks great - very interesting exterior. Thanks for update.

        Thanks, @Edd!

One more proposal for 24-floor multifunctional building in Balasta dambis 1 (DAM property building) - this one is by "Arhis"

        - - -
16-floor apartment building close to Skonto football stadium, part of Skanste Street highrise district. Forst three floors have been built - will be used as press room during the World Ice Hockey Championship. Afterwards the construction would be continued, as well as whole quartal would be rebuilt.
Something there is too much - but I hope that the real building would be better than this bad-quality rendering.

        - - - -
"Saules ieleja" - complex of buildings for elderly people and people with special needs at Lake Kisezers. Architect "I. Slivkas birojs" won the architecture tender.

        - - - -
"Hourglass" project has been revived - this weird 35-floor, 125 m high office building is to be constructed in Kipsala highrise district, at Daugavgrivas Street.

        - - -
"Aizkulises" project has got Webpage - www.aizkulises.lv

Aciu for keeping this thread so nicely updated, Gati!

As for the project on Elizabetes Street, I'm not entirely happy. Of course it's a good thing that the existing wooden building will be moved but on the whole the street (remember, my hotel last summer was just a few houses away and itself a rehabilitated woodie ) has more of a traditional character, so the introduction of the modern building is quite jarring to me.

Aizkulises surely is a zinger of a place!

And, like Vytauc, I'm excited to hear that the Hourglass project has been revived. May it become GORGEOUS!

Really great news about "Hourglass" and "Aizkulises" project looks very interesting too. I wonder if it'll really have all those paintings on the facade in reality.

"Aizkulises" will have that flower design in reality. Quite many projects of "new wawe" have such design - it is trendy. "Aizkulises" will use some kind of special color, which would be suited for washing.
At the same time there is much criticism about this project - seems, the apartments inside would be too dark, the wawe-form wall (it is the same inside) would make interior planning more complicated. But with all of this - very interesting project.

Too bad the apartments will be dark! And the furniture makers have a challenge coming up with round bookshelves, beds, dressers ...

                      Re-posted from SSC:
Lots of renderings from the great architects "Sarma & Norde" (www.sarmanorde.lv):
                      - Proposal for the complex of highrise apartment buildings in the eastern part of Riga - near crossing of A. Deglava and A. Saharov streets. This is hard-core commieblock district - those new buildings are supposed to supplement and diversify it. I counted up to 20 floors. I have suspicion that this work is ordered by municipal developer "Rigas pilsetbuvnieks" but am not sure.

                      - - -
Enormous complex for police (nicknamed "Pentagon") near Mezaparks (Gaujas Street and Ciekurkalna 1. linija) consists of 8 new buildings. It is under construction now - I have not had opportunity to visit this enormous construction site so far.

                      - - -
One highrise building I did not know about - it will be located in Kipsala, squeezed between Preses nams and Saules akmens, near the bus stop. I counted 24 floors. Conservative design - the narrow place sets its visual requirements. I like it very much. Project is comparatively fresh - I don't expect that they will start before 2007. I counted that there are two existing highrises in Kipsala, one under construction (da Vinci), 8 under preparation. All are above 20 floors. Would be nice, dense district around 2009.
                      Location:

                      View from Vansu bridge:

                      View when entering the centre:

View when looking from inner side of Kipsala:"

                      - - -
"Latvijas Krajbanka" in Skanstes Street building has reached 7 floors already now. In some month time there will be started buildings around it:

                      - - -
Quartal of hotel "Latvija" is close to completion - they are making facade works now. That historical building has been renovated in full beauty:

"Vertikala pasaule" - complex of two united skyscrapers on Daugavgrivas Street (part of Kipsala highrise district). I counted 37 floors and 29 floors. They tell that it will be started in 2006. Architects - local "F.L.Tadao & Luksevics"

                        ---------
Complex of three highrises in Rusova Street, architect - Italian "Pallazzano". This is the first proposal for the new highrise area between Ciekurkalns and Mezaparks, north from Centre.

                        - - -
Proposal by "Depo projekts" for another "baby" in Kipsala:

As if the existing highrise proposals are not enough (more than 50 already) German Behnisch Architekten came up with this winning proposal for development of area between Mezaparks and Ciekurkalns - it includes several buildings with 40 floors:

The highway in forefront seems to be Brivibas Dublieris - eastern part of 1 billion EUR worth 25 km long Northern Corridor. Map of Northern Corridor where the red circle shows the highrise district proposed by Behnisch, red part of the road will go underground. It is not known wheteher the road will go over Daugava (bridge) or under it.

@Ežiukas, since February I don't have camera. Earlier I updated construction updates in SSC but the last I did in January this year. Since then - nothing - because I don't have a camera.
The purpose of this thread is to show the renderings of new, upcoming projects, which I could find in Internet. Several among those projects will be started only some years later. This thread tries to look in near future, not in something what is almost yesterday. F.e. it does not show "Solaris" highrises because those are practically completed.

I counted - 26 of the projects shown here are under construction now - most were started just in last two months.
Few construction pictures which I could find on Internet:
                                    Southern Bridge:

"AstraLux" apartment highrises (22 and 24 floors) have been started.
One 24-floor apartment highrise has been started in Skanstes Street.
Pile driver is working in site of Remtes street offices (26 floors).
"da Vinci" construction site has been cleaned and is waiting the elaboration of the new model for Kipsala skyline.

Some new renders from Finnish "CEJ":

Midrise office district in Skanstes Street:

Northern part of Lucavsala highrise district. Two highrises in upper right side (24 and 28 floors - the last one some 95 meters high) should be started this year - they have applied for permit already.

Winning proposal for district between Mezaparks and Ciekurkalns has been proposed jointly by Behnisch and CEJ. Are they serious - will Riga need all of this?

Neigbouring district would be "Daugava Green City" - this multimillion PPP project got initial approval from City two weeks ago. It will include buildings up to 40 floors high:

Magdelenas nami - very pleasant development near "Skonto arena, where three new perimetral quartals with several new streets will be developed - with underground car traffic, plazas and pedestrian areas above.

Project on Balasta dambis 11 (24 floors, 96 m high) has been sold to Estonians, construction will start in 2007, end in 2008.

Demolition works at National Library project site have been started:

Jurmala in general gets projects which have one level higher quality than Riga. There are not too many multiapartment projects, some 15 only, but each is interesting.
