Plans move forward for 150 homes next to Plymouth's £6.2m boulevard
Meanwhile, construction work is well underway on the £9m Moxy-branded hotel which will rise up from what was the car park of Plymouth Pavilions. Mitnija, one of Lithuania’s largest construction firms, aims to have the six-storey building complete within 14 months.

The 220-bedroom hotel was granted planning permission in January 2019.The company behind the project is Vastint from Holland. It will face onto the boulevard, where demolition work started on the redundant buildings in 2019.

Work on the £6.2m boulevard was completed in June 2021,- just as work started on the Moxy hotel which will sit alongside it. The planned housing will go up opposite the hotel site, where foundations are currently being dug.

Work on Millbay Boulevard has transformed it from a down at heel backwater lane into a tidy link between the city centre and the Millbay dockside.

Mitnija begins construction of Moxy Hotel in Plymouth, UK

Mitnija, one of Lithuania’s largest construction companies, has secured a Design & Build contract for a new Moxy Hotel in Plymouth, southwestern England. This is the second Moxy Hotel in the United Kingdom to be built by Mitnija for the international real estate developer Vastint Hospitality. The first is currently being completed in Milton Keynes, England.

The six-story, 5,700 sq. m Moxy Hotel Plymouth will be located near the waterfront in the city’s downtown area and will feature 200 rooms, common areas and underground parking. Mitnija will begin construction immediately and complete the hotel in June 2022.

Mantas Enčeris, Managing Director of Mitnija UK, explains that the construction of the Moxy Hotel Plymouth will not be a walk in the park, either.

“One distinct challenge is the project’s location. Plymouth is a port city, and our building is going to be constructed only slightly above sea level. This means that laying its foundations will require extra work and equipment. Our team of construction engineers are considering using specialized technology for this. Another set of challenges, of course, comes from the continuing pandemic and the post-Brexit changes. However, I am confident we will successfully overcome them all,” Mr. Enčeris says.

The exterior finish of the Moxy Hotel Plymouth will use locally sourced limestone. This was a requirement by the Plymouth City Council, to reflect the city’s historical architecture. Mitnija UK will hire and manage more than 40 subcontractors and suppliers. Special attention will have to be paid to on-site logistics and organization. The hotel site is in a busy central city location, and Mitnija will thus have to cooperate closely with local officials in temporarily closing and managing vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
