Lufthansa launches internet service on short, medium-haul flights

    http://www.aerotime.aero/en/civil/12...m-haul-flights

Lufthansa announced that the first carrier's aircraft has been equipped with internet connectivity on board. In the coming weeks, the onboard system will be tested for functionality and stability. The carrier expects that by this October the service will be available for its customers on short- and medium-haul aircraft, while entire A320 family fleet will have the technology installed by mid-2018.

The future service from Lufthansa and its technology partner Inmarsat is based on the latest broadband satellite technology (Ka-band) and offers seamless, reliable coverage on short- and medium-haul flights through Inmarsat’s Global Xpress network. Passengers will be able to access the internet using their own mobile devices via Wi-Fi.

Lufthansa carried out the world’s first scheduled flight with broadband internet access on January 15, 2003. Despite its growing popularity among passengers, the technically reliable service had to be discontinued in 2006 because the Connexion by Boeing satellites ceased commercial operations.

Since December 2010 Lufthansa has once again been the first airline to provide broadband internet access on intercontinental flights. Since June 2015 FlyNet has been available on all 107 long-haul aircraft in the Lufthansa fleet.

IATA: Brexit could reduce UK air passengers from 3% to 5% by 2020
      http://www.aerotime.aero/en/civil/12...3-to-5-by-2020

Following the referendum in the United Kindom, The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released preliminary analysis of the financial and economic impact of the Brexit decision on the air transport industry. It suggests that the number of UK air passengers could be 3-5% lower by 2020.

Impacts vary according to the different scenarios and assumptions used, but broadly point to UK GDP being 2.5-3.5% lower in level terms by 2020 compared to the ‘no Brexit’ baseline. The outcome of the referendum could reduce air passenger growth by 1.0-1.5% each year over the near term. The impact of Brexit is expected to be a permanent downward shift in the level of GDP, not a temporary impact that is recovered after a period of time.

Belgium's VLM Airlines files for bankruptcy, suspends all flights

        http://www.aerotime.aero/en/civil/12...for-bankruptcy

Belgium‘s regional carrier VLM Airlines has filed for bankruptcy and suspended all its operations effective immediately.

This May the airline filed for protection from creditors for the next six months to avoid bankruptcy and expected to operate flights as usual from 2017. However, it turned out that six months period was not sufficient as the airline could not raise extra capital and bring new pilots to replace those who had already left for other companies.

“We realized that all restructuring measures we had implemented from January onward had been too late for a sustainable restructuring,” said Hamish Davidson, CEO at VLM Airlines.

VLM Airlines was established in 1993. Its fleet consisted of 11 Fokker 50 aircraft. During 2015 the carrier served 300,000 passengers but finished the financial year with a €13 million loss.

              Atsigauna Irano aviacijos industrija.

Iran is targeting more than fleet renewal after the lifting of aviation sanctions

Within days Airbus had announced an order by Iran Air for 118 new aircraft—a tentative deal sweetened by the European manufacturer's promise to assist with training, maintenance, air navigation and regulatory development. It includes a commitment for 12 A380s, the double-decker plane that only the very largest network carriers can fill. Iran Air also agreed to buy 20 turboprops from ATR, a French-Italian manufacturer. America's Boeing has not yet scored any orders, though with Iran pegging its requirement at 500 aircraft over ten years it is still in the running.
Despite the challenges, Temel Kotil, the boss of Turkish Airlines, another regional goliath, says passenger numbers in Tehran could overtake Dubai within a decade “if they mean it”. He says Tehran's geography is better than Dubai's for some intercontinental stopovers—Europe to South-East Asia, for example—and unlike Dubai it has a vast population to tap into. Iran's airlines have also become lean and wily after decades of sanctions, slashing their cost bases and finding creative solutions for unorthodox challenges.

Heathrow pledges to new PM to invest £16bn if expansion approved
                      http://www.aerotime.aero/en/airports...nsion-approved

In a letter to new UK Prime Minister Theresa May, Heathrow representatives committed to invest £16bn in a privately-funded stimulus package if hub‘s expansion gets government approval. Heathrow’s shareholders together control over $1 trillion in fund and highlight that a decision on Heathrow would boost investor confidence in the wider UK economy.

“At a time of uncertainty, a £16bn privately-funded infrastructure investment will create jobs and growth across the UK. We have a real opportunity to build a better future for communities across our country and help fulfil the Prime Minister’s vision for the UK," commented on the letter John Holland-Kaye, CEO if Heathrow.

Last year, the Government’s independent Airports Commission gave recommendation to expand Heathrow, finding that doing so would create up to 180,000 new jobs. With expansion, Heathrow has committed to create 10,000 apprenticeships for young people, leaving a legacy of skills and helping to eradicate youth unemployment in Heathrow’s local area.

The commission also set out tough conditions to expansion, including restrictions on night flights and controls on air pollution and noise. Last month, Heathrow accepted those conditions in full and pledged to continue to build constructive partnerships with local communities.

Expansion supporters include the CBI, FSB, chambers of commerce from across the country, trade unions Unite, the GMB and the TUC, 38 British airports and airlines such as easyJet, which plans to operate from an expanded Heathrow.

ACI: global passenger traffic increase by 4.6% in May 2016
                          http://www.aerotime.aero/en/civil/12...-6-in-may-2016

Airports Council International (ACI) reported that global passenger traffic increased 4.6% in the month of May 2016. The growth in passenger traffic was slightly below the past 12-month growth trend of 6%. Airports also reported an increase of 4.1% in international passenger traffic and an increase of 5.2% in domestic traffic. Accumulated total passenger traffic growth for the first five months of 2016 was a 5.9% year-over-year increase.

At the regional level the results were mixed.

The Middle East continued to lead passenger traffic growth with a robust 11.4% year-over-year increase, driven by international passenger growth of 11.8%. Doha (DOH), the region’s second busiest airport after Dubai (DXB), saw traffic leap by over 23%.

Asia-Pacific followed in second place with a growth of 7.2%. The region benefited from the buoyant traffic gains in India. With strong economic fundamentals, the sub-continent continued to be one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. Delhi (DEL) grew 21% in May as compared to the previous year.

European airports experienced more moderate gains in passenger traffic, with a 3.6% year-over-year increase. The slight weakening of traffic growth levels in the near term came after the April terrorist attacks at Brussel (BRU) which had a spillover effect across European hubs.

North America outperformed its mature market expectations over the course of the year. Many of the region’s airports and airlines had the capacity to accommodate the continued growth in demand. Both domestic and international traffic grew at similar rates at 4.5% and 4.3% respectively. Overall passenger traffic grew 4.4% for the month.

The Latin America-Caribbean region continued to suffer from economic malaise. Airport passenger traffic grew 0.2%. Growth in international passenger traffic was barely able to offset a 1% decline in domestic passenger traffic. The region’s largest economy, Brazil, continued to face recessionary conditions.

Africa reported a 4.8% decline in total passenger traffic, resulting mainly from the decline of 9.8% in international passenger traffic, particularly of key tourist destinations where aviation security remained a concern.

Russia restarts charter flights to Turkey
                            http://www.aerotime.aero/en/civil/12...ghts-to-turkey

As a result of Turkey’s guarantees of additional aviation security measures, Russian Transport Ministry lifted all restrictions on regular passenger service between Russia and Turkey, effective from July 22, 2016.

Russian Transport ministry had prohibited charter flights between the two countries in response to the military coup attempt. The statement was announced less that two weeks after the charter services have been relaunched, following a 6 months break after the downing of Russian Su-24 jet in 2015.

Kazakhstan's Air Astana reports net loss of $6.6m in 1H 2016
                              http://www.aerotime.aero/en/civil/12...-6m-in-1h-2016

Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, reported a net loss of $6.6 million, and an operating profit of $0.975 million, for the first half of 2016. Operating revenue fell by 30% to $275 million, driven by a signification devaluation of the Kazakh Tenge in comparison with the first half of 2015, and by weaker regional travel markets in the wake of commodity price falls. Passenger numbers fell by 7% to 1.69 million.

Peter Foster, Air Astana President and CEO, said: “The macro-economic environment has been and continues to be extremely challenging for all airlines operating in the region. However we have been able to compensate to a large extent for a steep drop in revenue, particularly on domestic routes, by further reducing unit cost and by substantially increasing international transit traffic between Europe and Asia."

BA short haul maistas - visai pakenciamas.
